We Are Juneteenth

2021 Juneteenth was a celebration to remember. President Joe Biden signed into law making Juneteenth a Federally recognized holiday. Re-affirming the what we as Americans have been fighting for generations. Recognition of the struggles of our people and honoring our attributions to the fabric of the American History.

It took the 13th Amendment to ultimately provide freedom for all the enslaved African Americans. Juneteenth must be honored. Honored for its landmark victory, prideful history and culture of our people.

At We Are One Southeast Chicago, we have served the Greater Chicago and Milwaukee areas for over six years. On Sunday, June 19, 2022, we plan to host our Annual Worldwide Juneteenth 2022 Celebration. We seek your collaboration to bring awareness and highlight several Worldwide Juneteenth 2022 celebrations throughout the United States.

We are incredibly grateful that President Joe Biden declared Juneteenth an official National Holiday in 2021. Last year our annual event was an overwhelming success despite the covid pandemic. Our goal in 2022 is to raise $200,000. We invite you to visit a few of our sites listed at the bottom of the page.

POWERFUL MISSION

Established in 2017 to celebrate, provide special events like Juneteenth, “Older Americans”, Kwanzaa and Black History Month, We Are One Southeast Chicago is a volunteer senior organization. Local Elders saw the importance of mutual learning from an intergenerational mentoring program and the We Are One Southeast Chicago began!

Today the organization has expanded to the greater Chicago, Milwaukee, Midwest and Philadelphia, North Carolina California…and, now We Are One Southeast Chicago has GONE GLOBAL with its Second ever World-Wide Juneteenth!
